A business transaction is not guaranteed to complete. It is an exciting time but it can be stressful with lots of ups and downs.

Before you even start to approach potential suitors, you should ensure that the business looks as good as possible and that you fully understand where the value is. You will be seeking to maximise the value of the business transaction but the “other side” will be trying to “get ‘owt for nowt”. It is essential that there are no easy targets for them to find and to negotiate with.

There is a process to go through and you will also need to provide lots of very detailed information about every aspect of your business to the professionals acting for the other party as part of the due diligence process.
